Malik Muhammad is off in the NFL, making a name for himself with the Chicago Bears, and before we know it, beloved defensive backs like Jelani McDonald and Graceson Littleton will be doing the same.
So, the Texas Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian have had to continue filling in the ranks with star cornerbacks and safeties. Most recently, they set their sights on four-star prospect Savion James, a Texas native and one of the top-25 safeties in the class of 2028.
On Thursday, Oct. 1, James shared that the Horns had extended him an offer after "a great conversation" with Texas DBs coach Blake Gideon.
During his sophomore season, James racked up 86 total tackles, 10 pass breakups, four tackles for loss, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one touchdown. Talk about a beast in the secondary.

James' offer comes with a slew of other offers that the Longhorns have been sending out over the past week, leaning into their recruiting efforts without a game on Saturday.
However, the Horns also joined a lengthy list of teams that had already offered James, including fellow in-state programs like the Texas A&M Aggies, Houston Cougars, and SMU Mustangs (just to name a few).

Of course, James also isn't the only prospect that Sarkisian and the Horns have set their sights on over the last week, if not the last few months, from the class of 2028. Texas also offered four-star wide receiver Madoxx Davis earlier this week, someone who would likely play opposite James if they both committed to the Longhorns.
Adding another prospect to Texas's defensive back wish list is Antwaun "Cornbread" Adams (awesome last name, I know), who is yet another four-star safety that the Horns offered earlier this week.
"Blessed to receive an offer from Texas Longhorns," Adams wrote on X, making sure to mention Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.
Similarly, Sarkisian has been visiting various recruits and commits this week, including four-star running back Landen Williams-Callis, who put on an absolute clinic with the Horns' head coach and RBs coach Jabbar Juluke on the sidelines.
So far, the Longhorns have just one commit from the class of 2028: four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence, who committed to Texas this summer. However, with the effort that the Horns continue to put into recruiting, more commitments are obviously going to come.
Simply put, while the Texas football team won't take the field for a game this weekend, that by no means is to say that the Longhorns are taking the weekend off.
Sarkisian, his staff, and his recruiters are hard at work ensuring that the Horns aren't just an elite program now, but an elite program for years to come.
