To the surprise of no one, the No. 5 Texas Longhorns are heavily favored in their season-opening home matchup against the Texas State Bobcats.
Of course, that means the Bobcats have nothing to lose and everything to play for, while the opposite could be said for the Horns.
And, obviously, as soon as the two teams take the field and the season actually kicks off, whatever the oddsmakers had to say couldn't matter less.
However, just as anyone invested (mentally or financially) in college sports, the odds aren't something that can go entirely without notice, especially when you're talking about one of the top five teams in the nation.

Texas vs. Texas State prediction
The biggest issue that the Bobcats present is their high-production, up-tempo offense, led by returning starting quarterback Brad Jackson. So, this game could see quite a few more points than the oddsmakers are willing to put out there.
However, the Texas defense is one of the stoutest and strongest units in the country, so Jackson likely won't have the amount of time in the backfield that he is used to.
On the other side of the ball, the Longhorns undeniably have one of the most talented and deepest offensive squads in the nation, led by none other than quarterback Arch Manning. So, don't be surprised if the Horns are able to respond with ease whenever Texas State is able to score.
This could very easily turn into a high-scoring, offensive showcase if Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp doesn't have his guys quite as ready as they should be for the first game of the year, but I still believe the Longhorns should blow the (non-existent) roof off of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
