Ex-Texas football players to take the biggest stage for the Super Bowl this weekend in NOLA

Super Bowl LIX is set to take place this Sunday in New Orleans, LA, where over 100 athletes from the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will take the field for the NFL's biggest showdown of the season. The victorious team will have the honor of lifting the coveted Lombardi Trophy.

Additionally, three former Longhorns will be participating in this high-stakes game, playing significant roles for their respective teams, and they will be sharing insights about their contributions.

Kansas City Chiefs

Xavier Worthy, WR

This year has marked an impressive rookie season for Worthy with the Chiefs, who selected him as the 28th overall pick in the first round. In his debut season, he has made a notable impact on the team's offense. With his exceptional speed, playmaking skills, and precise route running, he has been able to outmaneuver defenders both in the wide receiver position and the slot. Additionally, he has contributed to the running game with effective plays like jet sweeps and screens.

Worthy has emerged as the second-leading receiver in terms of receiving yards, trailing only tight end Travis Kelce. He recorded 59 receptions from 98 targets, accumulating 638 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Notably, three of his catches exceeded 25 yards, with his longest reception reaching 54 yards. In the running game, he added 104 rushing yards and three touchdowns. So, this Sunday, be ready to hear Worthy's name called as he makes some exciting plays.

Charlies Omenihu, Edge

Omenihu was selected by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2019 draft, marking the beginning of his professional career in his hometown. He played with the Texans until 2021 before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers, where he spent a year. In 2023, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and has since established himself as a reliable rotational edge rusher known for his relentless pass-rushing ability and effective run-stopping skills.

During the AFC Championship game against the Bills, Omenihu participated in 43 defensive snaps (59 percent), making a significant impact with a crucial pass breakup and two tackles. I anticipate his role in the upcoming game against the Eagles will mirror his performance against the Bills.

Philadelphia Eagles

Moro Ojomo, DT

Ojomo was selected by the Eagles in the seventh round last year and has since become a key player in the Deep Eagles D-line Room. Despite the depth of the roster, Ojomo has carved out a role as a reliable rotational pass rusher, weighing in at just over 290 pounds.

This season, he has recorded 26 quarterback hurries and 36 pressures, making life difficult for opposing quarterbacks. I anticipate that he will play a crucial role in the pass rush as the Eagles aim to contain quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
