In the midst of a cold front, the Texas Longhorns will don their all-white uniforms as they travel north for the College Football Playoff semifinals. The Horns are set to face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl as the two teams battle for their chance at the national title.
On Tuesday, just three days before kick off, Texas shared that the team would wear their icy whites in the must-win matchup – the same uniform combination that the Longhorns wore in their quarterfinal victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Despite the Longhorns' success and lengthy history, Texas hasn't fallen under the spell of programs like Oregon, Tennessee, and Ole Miss, who all love to introduce alternative uniforms on a seemingly weekly basis.
Instead, Texas sticks with what it knows: the classics. The Horns are either wearing their all-white uniforms with burnt orange detailing or their burnt orange jerseys with white pants.
A few years ago, Texas attempted to introduce a new-ish uniform combination by having players wear black cleats and allowing them to rock a few black details and accessories. However, once head coach Steve Sarkisian took over, it was almost immediately back to basics.
Throughout the regular season, Texas wears its white uniform combination for away games while wearing the burnt orange tops at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. This postseason, the Longhorns seem to have found success while rocking all-white – despite defeating Clemson in the first round while wearing burnt orange – and are leaning into that for now.
The No. 5 Texas Longhorns and the No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes are scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday, Jan. 10 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
