Texas losing an OT commit in the middle of playing A&M is actually unbelievable

Though there were rumors floating around as of late, 3-star commit Max Wright has officially flipped to SMU.

It's halftime of the Texas vs. Texas A&M game, and on top of being down 10-3, the Longhorns just lost 3-star offensive tackle commit Max Wright to SMU.

Though it never feels good to lose a commit, regardless of their star status, Texas kind of saw this one coming. Wright has apparently been trending towards flipping to SMU for a few weeks now.

Wright definitely had some potential to develop into a solid, depth-level contributor for the Longhorns, but they'll be fine. This also comes shortly after Texas was able to flip Stanford OT commit Kaden Scherer a couple of days ago.

The team also has John Turntine III locked down for the 2026 cycle, and he undoubtedly has enough talent to see playing time as a true freshman if need be.

Gabe Brooks, 247sports Scouting Analyst had this to say about Turntine III:

"Potentially position-versatile offensive lineman who initially projected to IOL but may fit best outside considering movement ability/athleticism and lack of traditional guard mass. He needs time in a college weight room/training program, but could become a multi-year starter who possesses traits that could lead to playing beyond college."

The Longhorns also have Nicolas Robertson committed for 2026 as well, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the team add one to two more offensive linemen before signing day.
