As the Texas Longhorns cobbled together their win over the UTSA Roadrunners in Week 3, they looked like anything but the No. 1 team in the country. However, when the new AP Top 25 Poll was released, the Horns still reigned supreme over the rest of the nation.
With a 3-0 record to their name and still just a week off of defeating the previous No. 1 team, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Longhorns were the top team in the AP Poll after Week 3, but it would only get harder to maintain that ranking.
Now, after showing flashes of the questionable team from last year, the Horns have to kick off their SEC schedule with a road trip to Knoxville, where they will face the now No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers, who moved up a spot after solidifying a 3-0 record of their own.
If Texas looks rocky against Tennessee, Horns could see ranking drop
Now, even with a hypothetical win over the Volunteers in Week 4, the Longhorns could undoubtedly see their ranking drop a spot or two.
The shaky performance against the Roadrunners in UTSA produced a lot of questions about the Horns' offense, something that will undeniably have to kick into high gear as conference play begins, especially with a trip to Knoxville in Week 4.
We saw it this week, with the Ole Miss Rebels making a jump to No. 4 after their Top 10 win over the LSU Tigers, knocking the Indiana Hoosiers, Miami Hurricanes, and Ohio State Buckeyes down a spot, despite all three teams winning their Week 3 matchups.

The best part of the latest AP Poll is the fact that the Horns' biggest rivals the Texas A&M Aggies dropped to No. 23 after their upset loss to the still-unranked Kentucky Wildcats, and the Oklahoma Sooners dropped entirely out of the Top 25, even after eking out their win over the New Mexico Lobos.
And, with both Ole Miss and Tennessee moving up the rankings, it keeps Texas's strength of schedule argument at an all-time high, even though the Aggies and the Sooners don't provide any real competition as of right now.
