Over the past few weeks, the Longhorns have been making a strong push for a few different blue-chip players on their board, but they've also been turning up the heat in the recruitment of 3-star Atascocita High School (Humble, TX) CB Trenton Blaylock.
The 6'1", 180-pound cornerback is the brother of current Oklahoma RB Tory Blaylock and son of former New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs RB Derrick Blaylock. In fact, all three of his brothers have played or currently play division one college football.
The pedigree is obviously there for Trenton, who's currently being recruited heavily by Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas to play on the defensive side of the ball.
Texas coaches are swarming Atascocita this week for a reason🔥

Speed is the name of the game for Blaylock
He's an excellent man-coverage corner due to his anticipation and closing speed. If opposing receivers are able to create some separation at the top of their routes, he's shown the ability to break on the ball well and gain ground quickly when the football arrives at its target. Watching Blaylock cover a receiver running a fade is beautiful, as he backpedals and flips his hips incredibly well to run with his opponent. Not many receivers at the high school level have been able to outrun him either, and he recently ran a 10.56-second 100-meter dash during a spring track meet. If you aren't aware, that's pretty dang fast.
His above-average length also helps him in the quick game by being able to reach in and knock passes away on quick slants and in-breakers near the line of scrimmage.
Perhaps his most impressive quality is his tackling ability and aggression at the point of attack against the run. Blaylock consistently makes big hits whenever he can, and follows up initial contact with a good wrap-up to finish the job. Cornerbacks, especially at the high school level, can be essentially "erased" in the run game with dummy routes and clear-out routes. Blaylock seemingly recognizes what's happening early and will throttle down mid-backpedal to step up and make a big stop when the rest of the secondary has taken the bait.
It'll be interesting to see if the Longhorns can finish strong with Blaylock and get him locked up for 2027. He's only a 3-star, but he shows a lot of the qualities that Will Muschamp likes to have in a field corner in his scheme.
