Texas has officially parted ways with DC Pete Kwiatkowski and defensive passing game coordinator Duane Akina this afternoon. Kwiatkowski will be replaced by former Longhorns DC Will Muschamp, who's recently held an assistant role at Georgia from 2021 to 2024.

Muschamp has been bouncing around the SEC since leaving Texas in 2010, holding various roles at Florida, Auburn, South Carolina, and Georgia.

It'll be incredibly interesting to see why Steve Sarkisian and Co. made the trade from Kwiatkowski to Muschamp, as Kwiatkowski's been great for the Longhorns' defense since he's been in Austin. Texas has been absolutely dominant in multiple aspects, especially against the run over the past two seasons.

Akina was brought in to help out with the defensive backfield in 2025, but only lasted one season at Texas in his second stint with the team.

Texas fans undoubtedly have a sour taste in their mouth from when Muschamp left the first time for Florida, so let's see if he'll be able to have success and change some of the feelings around the city.
