The Texas Longhorns were just predicted by two recruiting experts as the favored landing spot for one of the highest-ranked high school defensive backs in recent history. John Meredith III is a 5-star cornerback from North Crowley HS in Fort Worth, TX, and he's been one of the top prep-level defensive backs for the past two full seasons.
Though almost every school in America is hot on his trail, some of the most well-known high school recruiting analysts have just logged official predictions for the Longhorns to land the 6'2", 180-pound superstar defender. He reminds quite a few scouts of the way Richard Sherman looked coming out of high school in 2006, mostly from a body type and instincts standpoint.

Meredith III is a bit lanky right now, but that hasn't stopped him from throwing his body around and stepping up in a dominant way against the run. He's an excellent tackler, and his ability to completely erase high school receivers of all shapes and sizes is what makes him stand out the most. He hasn't really been tested yet from a 1-on-1 matchup perspective, but that just goes to show how dominant he is on a play-by-play basis.
If the Longhorns actually do end up gaining his commitment at some point, Meredith III would be the highest-rated recruit to land at the University of Texas since Arch Manning in 2023. Even more impressive than that, and kind of mind-blowing, is that he'd also be the third-highest-ranked high school recruit in program history.
He's currently rated higher than past Longhorn greats such as Sergio Kindle, Jackson Jeffcoat, Jordan Hicks, and Bijan Robinson.
