Texas opens as small favorite vs. Georgia in SEC title game
Texas football's 10-point victory over the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies in the Lone Star Showdown at Kyle Field in College Station on Saturday night sent head coach Steve Sarkisian to the SEC title game.
Next weekend, Sarkisian and the Longhorns (11-1, 7-1 SEC) will get a rematch against head coach Kirby Smart and the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs (10-2 6-2 SEC) in the SEC Championship Game.
Georgia handed Texas its only loss of the regular season in a convincing 31-15 triumph over the Longhorns at DKR in Austin in mid-October. Since the win over the Longhorns, Georgia lost a game to the No. 16 Ole Miss Rebels by 18 points on Nov. 9 and nearly fell to the in-state rival Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Athens this weekend.
Texas is appearing in a P4 conference championship game for the second season in a row. Last year, the Longhorns defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 49-21, to win the Big 12 Championship Game in Arlington, TX, for the first time in over 10 years.
Smart and the Dawgs are in the SEC Championship Game for the fourth year in a row (since 2021) and have made it seven of the past eight years under the current coaching regime under Kirby.
Here’s a look at the opening betting odds for the SEC Championship Game between No. 2 Texas and No. 5 Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA, on Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. CT.
