No. 5 Texas opens as a big favorite on the road against No. 25 Vanderbilt for Week 9, after a convincing defeat at home vs. Georgia last Saturday.

Last weekend, No. 5 Texas football (6-1, 2-1 SEC) was handed a humbling defeat by the freshly-ranked No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs in the AP Poll by double digits on its home turf in primetime at DKR. Despite the 15-point defeat at the hands of Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart in Week 8, Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian remains a heavy double-digit favorite in the opening odds this coming week.

Texas definitely didn't look like the pregame favorite in the first half against Georgia on Saturday night.

Vegas seems to still be pretty high on the Longhorns, entering a difficult ranked matchup on the road in the SEC in Nashville this upcoming weekend against the No. 25 Vanderbilt Commodores (5-2, 2-1 SEC).

Vanderbilt is 4-0 at home this season for the first time since 1982. This will prove to be a tall task for Sarkisian and the Longhorns to respond after the battering against Georgia last weekend to face its first top-25 matchup in SEC play this season against a Vandy squad that upset the Alabama Crimson Tide on its home turf in Nashville earlier this fall.

If you told me that the Longhorns would be a three-score favorite on the road over Vanderbilt during the preseason a couple of months ago, that wouldn't be shocking in the slightest. I might be pretty surprised that the opening odds didn't favor Texas by more points against the Commodores on the road.

Here’s a look at the opening betting odds for the Week 9 matchup between No. 5 Texas and No. 25 Vanderbilt at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, TN, on Oct. 26 at 3:15 p.m. CT.
