It was just announced that M.J. Morris, the No.5-ranked dual-threat QB in the 2022 recruiting class has committed to Texas today.

Morris originally committed to North Carolina State out of high school, where he was an on-and-off starter for two seasons. He then transferred to Maryland in 2024 where he appeared in seven games, starting one. After that, he decided to make the move to Coastal Carolina to see if he could have a better chance to start but once again, he was limited to only four games.

Steve Sarkisian and Co. wanted to add a veteran with a good amount of experience to the roster with Matthew Caldwell running out of eligibility this year. With K.J. Lacey and Dia Bell being the most obvious options at QB2 and QB3 heading into 2026, the staff felt that they needed another veteran in the room to help with the development of the two youngsters behind Arch Manning.

Morris should be an excellent scout team quarterback as well with the amount of athleticism and scheme diversity that he's seen throughout his collegiate career. He'll be able to mimic quite a few of the opposing quarterbacks that Texas is set to face next season, and his importance to the program could end up being more important than it seems right now.

He's thrown for 2,021 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, and has a completion rate of 58.1% over his four-year stint with three different programs.

It'll be interesting to see now if the Longhorns add any other offensive linemen going forward after shoring up the QB room.
