Spring practice has been at the forefront of Texas football for the past few weeks, but one very important recruiting battle has been taking place behind closed doors in Austin as well.
Kalel Johnson, a top 25 offensive tackle recruit in the 2027 class, has been in constant contact with Texas' coaching staff, and he was even on campus for an unofficial visit recently. After having a great meeting with OL Coach Kyle Flood and Co., Johnson has decided to go ahead and schedule an official visit with the program for the weekend of June 5th.

The massive 6'8", 300-pound offensive tackle has been one of the better blockers in Ohio high school football since his sophomore season at Cincinnati Taft HS before transferring to Archbishop Moeller as a junior in 2025. In his first season as a starter at right tackle, he helped Taft to a 12-3 record and an appearance in the Ohio Class IV Final Four.
Johnson completely overwhelms pass rushers in pass pro with his above-average length and wingspan. Yes, an offensive tackle with his size will always have the upper hand when it comes to pass blocking at the high school level, but he has excellent footspeed as well.
He's usually one of the first players out of his stance and into is set when the ball is snapped, and he has a surprising amount of lateral mobility which helps when mirroring defenders.
He's also dominant as a run-blocker, latching onto opponents and driving them five yards downfield on a consistent basis. Johnson also has a "killer" mindset in the run game when it comes to finishing his blocks and playing through the whistle. When the play is over, his opponents end up on the ground more often than not, and that's one of the reasons why he's so sought-after as a prospect right now.
Texas' coaching staff has to continue gaining ground in his recruitment, as he'd be an incredibly welcome addition to their 2027 class, and a possible Trevor Goosby replacement in the future.
