They've done it! The Texas Longhorns have officially won their first conference championship since 2005, as the ladies defeated Alabama last night at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky.
The win represents a couple of enormous milestones for Texas softball, beginning with it being their first-ever SEC Conference Championship in program history. The second being the simple fact that it's Head Coach Mike White's first conference championship win as the lead man at Texas.
The Longhorns have now won a total of five conference championships (1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2026), and last night's win is even sweeter as it comes immediately following the program's first national championship win in 2025.

This Lady Longhorns team is chock-full of elite players, and All-Stars like Reese Atwood, Teagan Kavan, Leighann Goode, and Katie Stewart have been the backbone of this Texas team since the moment that they stepped onto the field back in February.
Kavan, the tournament's official MVP, struck out 12 Crimson Tide batters and limited what has been a pretty hot Alabama offense to just one run and three total hits on the day. Her 12 strikeouts were also the most by a pitcher in the SEC Tournament Championship Game since 2021.
The way Kavan's been able to completely eliminate some of the league's top hitters in 2026 has been incredible to watch each and every week, and there's no doubt that her future is incredibly bright as one of the top overall pitchers in collegiate softball.
Joining Kavan as an 2026 All-SEC Tournament team player is Goode, Viviana Martinez, and true freshman Jaycie Nichols.
The win marked the first notch in the bat for a Texas Longhorns team that undoubtedly has the talent and mental acuity to make a serious run at the national championship, and the official bracket selection show is tonight at 6:00pm CT/7:00pm ET on ESPN2.
