Texas star Rori Harmon is one step away from the Nancy Lieberman Award

It was announced today that Rori Harmon was a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award for top point guard in the country. I know Vic Schaefer might have some words if Rori doesn't win it.

I'm sure most of the Texas faithful are still on cloud nine after watching the Longhorns winthe SEC Championship on Sunday. They went up against one of college basketball's titans and came out victorious. While it's nice to have a No. 1 seed secured for the upcoming tournament and everything, the job isn't done yet. We'll see if the Longhorns make the Fort Worth Regional next Sunday.

However, it's time we turned our attention to one of the best point guards in the country.

Rori Harmon was named as a finalist for one of the best postseason awards a point guard could be nominated for. She was named a Nancy Lieberman Award finalist, which honors the top point guard in the country. After the season she had, if she hadn't been nominated for the award, it would have been a travesty. Let's take a look at past award winners and see if any of them are from Texas.

Rori was nominated for the award along with the following guards: Tonie Morgan, Raven Johnson, Olivia Miles, and Hannah Hidalgo. That's a pretty stacked list of finalists. She is the first Texas player to be nominated as a finalist. Though she was nominated at one point last season, she did not make the final five finalists.

Finally, people are starting to see what Harmon has done to make Texas the powerhouse it is.

As I have stated over the season, losing Rori Harmon is really going to hurt the Longhorns next year, as she's one of those rare players who's hard to replace. I'm sure the Longhorns can find another player like Harmon, but it's her leadership that sets her apart. If there were a Mount Rushmore of Texas women's basketball players, she would be one of the five heads on the mountain. Adding an SEC Championship to her accomplishments makes her an even more valuable player.

The award will be announced at a later date, along with the other player of the year awards. Stay tuned to find out if Harmon will bring the award back to Austin.

She has one more dream that she would love to accomplish before leaving Texas, and that's winning a National Championship.
