Texas baseball is on a nine-game winning streak after sweeping the Las Vegas Classic, and the Longhorns are flying up the polls. Most notably, the Horns surpassed the Texas A&M Aggies in the most recent rankings, the former team of Texas' current head coach, Jim Schlossnagle.
On the first day of the offseason last year, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte drove to College Station, the home of the Aggies, and parked outside of Schlossnagle's house until the former Texas A&M head coach would talk to him.
After the conversation between Schlossnagle and Del Conte, the Longhorns had a new head coach and Schlossnagle was moving to Austin.
So far, it seems like Del Conte's road trip is paying off as the Horns have started their 2025 season with a 9-1 record, only losing their first matchup 3-4 to the Louisville Cardinals in a game that went into extra innings.
Following Texas' comeback win over the Illinois Fighting Illini to secure the sweep in Las Vegas, Schlossnagle shared about how his players have bought into a culture in Austin.
"Nothing. These guys have bought into playing to a standard, not the scoreboard,” Schlossnagle said when asked about his players’ reaction to falling behind 6-1 in the 15-6 win over Illinois
Alongside the 15-6 win over Illinois, Texas defeated the Washington Huskies 10-9 and the Texas Tech Red Raiders 10-5. The Horns have also secured wins over Ole Miss, then-No. 17 Oklahoma State, Dartmouth, and Incarnate Word so far this season.
The Longhorns will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Santa Clara, and UT-Arlington before traveling to Starkville to kick off their SEC season against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
