Though no Texas players have entered the transfer portal before today, Sean Miller received some rough news: second-year PF Nic Codie decided to throw his name in the portal about 30 minutes ago.
The 6'8", 220-pound big man started off slow in 2025/2026, but ended up playing a key role for the Longhorns over the second part of the season and into the NCAA Tournament. He only ended up averaging 4.1 PPG, 3.1 RPG, and 0.5 BPG last season, but his energy off the bench and above-average effort on defense is where he made his mark for the team.
Codie is officially Sean Miller's first player loss at Texas, and hopefully he won't lose much more.

This honestly explains why the Longhorns have been rumored to be interested in guys like TCU's David Punch in the portal. They probably had a feeling or could have even known beforehand that Codie would be leaving Texas this offseason.
It's going to be interesting to see who else Texas goes after in the front court to help replace Codie. The Longhorns do have youngsters Declan Duru Jr. and John Clark at power forward, but there's a good chance that Sean Miller wants to bring in an experienced player or two to provide the team with a more legitimate presence alongside Matas Vokietaitis in 2026. The coaching staff was very high on both Duru Jr. and Clark coming out of high school, so they could feel content there, but it's unlikely.
Some transfer forwards to watch for Texas are Punch, UNC's Zayden High, and Utah's Keanu Dawes.
