Per OTF's Bobby Burton, a home-and-home series has been scheduled for the 2028 and 2029 seasons for Texas football and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to square off in non-conference play. This is exciting news for two blue blood programs to face each other during a loaded non-conference stretch in the mid-to-late 2020s for Texas.

The Longhorns began a home-and-home series for 2024 and 2027 against the Michigan Wolverines.
Texas has also faced a plethora of blue-blood programs in the non-con in the past decade, including the USC Trojans, LSU Tigers, and Alabama Crimson Tide.
Athletic director Chris del Conte and the Longhorns have continued to schedule high-profile non-conference opponents since the future schedules had to adjust for joining the SEC this year. Texas was originally scheduled to face the Georgia Bulldogs (2028 and 2029) and Florida Gators (2030 and 2031) in non-conference play.
Texas has also filled future schedules with a non-conference home-and-home series against the Arizona State Sun Devils in 2032 and 2033.
