Texas men's basketball is finally here, and they kick off the 2025 season against arguably one of the top teams in the country in the Duke Blue Devils at 8:45 pm EST/7:45pm CST.
The Longhorns added an incredible amount of talent this offseason through the transfer portal in Matas Vokietaitis, Dailyn Swain, Lassina Traore, Camden Heide, and Simeon Wilcher. It'll be interesting to see how they're used tonight alongside veterans like Chendall Weaver and Tramon Mark.
Though Vokietaitis and Traore have been banged up, it looks like they'll be available against the Blue Devils.
Texas vs Duke Spread, Moneyline, and Total
The oddsmakers currently have No.6 Duke as the favorite, as expected, but the spread may not be as large as originally expected.
- Spread: Duke -9.5 (-110)/Texas +9.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Duke (-550) /Texas (+400)
- Total: 153.5 (Over -104/Under -118)
Final Score Prediction
Duke 79, Texas 72.
I think Duke ultimately wins this one, but Texas keeps it closer than some think. There's a good chance that the Longhorns experience some growing pains early in the season simply due to Sean Miller's new offensive scheme that was installed this year. Texas also has a lot of new faces on the roster and it might take a few games to gel and get the player rotations figured out.
Texas has a lot of size this year, but Duke is just too good of a team to upset in game No.1.
