Texas Women's Basketball continued its five-game homestand to begin the season by hosting the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Monday night. The Longhorns got off to a quick start by earning a 19-point lead against the Cajuns in the first quarter. Texas would continue its dominance as the game went to beat the Ragin' Cajuns100-38.
Before we get to the four takeaways from tonight's game, I want to go over the rankings that came out yesterday. It should come as no surprise that Texas didn't move up or down in the rankings, as they remained the fourth-best team in the country. I'm sure things could change after the Longhorns take on the UCLA Bruins and South Carolina Gamecocks. However, I'm sure Texas is happy with the latest rankings.
Here are the four takeaways from tonight's win over Louisiana.
1. Dominated the first quarter defense
Forcing 10 turnovers and grabbing 11 rebounds early basically took Louisiana's offense out of the game right off the bat. Even though it wasn't against an elite team like UCLA, it shows just how good this Longhorns' defense is going to be on the court. Vic Schaefer should be proud of how his team came out of the gate last night.

2. Booker needs to be cautious with her aggressiveness
I know I'm being a tad picky here, but it's not ideal for Booker to have two personal fouls by the beginning of the second quarter. I love how aggressive she is on both sides of the ball; however, she needs to keep her aggressiveness in check so she can stay in the game. She's off to a great start this season on the offensive side of the ball, and her fouling out would not be ideal for Schaefer and his team. Booker did a good job limiting her aggressiveness after she picked up two fouls.
3. Longhorns' turnovers high tonight
One area the Longhorns need to improve while in Austin is reducing their turnovers. Even though the Longhorns won, they turned the ball over 13 times last night. If Texas has dreams and aspirations of beating the Bruins and Gamecocks during their non-conference schedule, they can't turn the ball over so often. I'm sure that is something Schaefer will address today during practice as the Longhorns prepare for Texas Southern on Sunday afternoon.
4. Winning the battle in the paint
The Longhorns won the battle inside the paint last night, which was a significant factor in their landslide win. They outscored Louisiana 62-10 inside, and it'll be even more impressive if they're able to do that against SEC teams going forward.
