Texas women's basketball hosted the Auburn Tigers at the Moody Center yesterday. Sunday's game against Ole Miss almost took the breath out of the fans in Austin, as the Rebels nearly came back and won. The Longhorns definitely learned that you can't take your foot off the gas pedal until the final buzzer sounds. However, it was a completely different story tonight as the Longhorns decimated the Tigers, 97-36.
First off, I feel for what the Auburn women's basketball fans are going through. Having 2 returning players and 11 newcomers is not easy to coach and they're basically at the beginning of a complete rebuild. However, the Tigers were competitive for the entire game. I'm sure Auburn Head Coach Larry Vickers will turn the program around in a couple of years.
Here are four takeaways from tonight's win against the Tiger:
1. Great start to the game
I thought the Longhorns had a lot of energy since they were playing at home. The Longhorns got out to a 15-1 lead and never looked back as the Tigers were stuck in the dust. Even though the game flow was interrupted by a couple of foul reviews early on, Texas did what it does best. They were aggressive, consistentyl driving to the basket and forcing turnovers. You could even tell Vic Schaefer was a little annoyed with the two reviews. Great start by the Longhorns as they get ready to take on LSU on Sunday.

2. Creating offense off turnovers
The Longhorns were definitely creating offense off their turnovers. At the midpoint in the second quarter, they had 20 points off their turnovers. That's definitely going to help you win games in the SEC. That's a stat line I wish had happened against South Carolina or LSU. However, the Longhorns' defense was definitely light-years better than it was on Sunday. Hopefully, this is a sign of improvement because the Longhorns will need to score off their turnovers next month.

3. Settling down and taking their time
During the 4th quarter against Ole Miss, Texas panicked with the ball and made some bad turnovers that almost cost them the game. Tonight was a completely different story as the Longhorns took their time on offense and made their shots. Texas seems to play its best game when it's calm and relaxed on the court.
I hope they realize after tonight that they don't need to rush the offense. Staying calm and collected really helps when it comes to winning basketball games.
4. Rori Harmon reaches another milestone
Rori Harmon reached another milestone again this season. During the first half of tonight's game against the Tigers, Harmon moved into 2nd place in career steals in Longhorns women's basketball history. She is a feisty two-way guard who has done so much for the program that I wouldn't be shocked if Schaefer sheds a tear during Senior Day. Harmon is a big part of the Longhorns' success this season, and she will be again this weekend as the Longhorns will be back in Baton Rouge on Sunday to face the LSU Tigers.
