Texas women’s basketball put on hold until Thursday due to weather

Texas women's basketball will have to wait until Thursday to return to the court. It was announced that the Longhorns and the Razorbacks won't play until February due to icy weather this weekend. Here's more on the announcement.

Texas women's basketball had a solid win last weekend against Texas A&M, and they had this past Tuesday off due to the mandatory two bye games. However, they will only have one bye week since they are using their second one on Sunday. I'm sure many of you have been preparing for the arctic-like weather headed to Texas this weekend and across the South. College basketball has had to postpone many games due to sub-zero temperatures on Saturday and Sunday.

It was announced on Friday night that the Texas women's basketball game against Arkansas is being postponed until next month. They will move the game to February 19th, when both teams will have their next bye. It feels weird that the Longhorns will have back-to-back bye games, but Mother Nature can get in the way sometimes. The Longhorns will play again on Thursday in Gainesville against the Florida Gators and then Texas will return home to take on the Oklahoma Sooners next Sunday.

The Longhorns will have to wait to take on the last-place Razorbacks. However, don't count out the Razorbacks the next time both teams meet in February. Taleyah Jones is a really great basketball player who leads the team in points and assists. Bonnie Dreas is another player who loves to dish the basketball to her teammates and force steals. Even though their record doesn't show it, they could still give the Longhorns a run for their money.

What the Longhorns need to prepare for next is the Florida Gators, who could make the Longhorns work for a win. Liv McGill is a solid Sophomore guard who leads the team with 23 points a game. I'm sure Schaefer and his coaching staff are working on a way to slow her down. Me'Arah O'Neal is another guard whom the Longhorns need to watch out for on Thursday night. Although the Longhorns should beat the Gators, they can't walk into the Swamp and expect them to roll over.

Although the Longhorns have to wait a couple of extra days to play basketball again, at least the team will be safe during the winter weather this weekend. That's more important than cramming a basketball game in on Sunday to make the schedule work. Luckily both the Longhorns and the Razorbacks, have the same bye day in February, so they were able to move the game until then. Stay warm and get ready for Thursday night when the Longhorns are back at it on the court.
