Texas women's basketball adds another elite player out of the transfer portal

Texas women's basketball announced that it has acquired a new player from the transfer portal. Here's more on the latest signee coming to Austin this fall.

It's been a while since there's really been any noise from Texas women's basketball in the transfer portal. Most of the players coming into the program are a part of the top recruiting program in the country.

It's a unique way to rebuild your team after losing an all-time great player in Rori Harmon, who is doing well with the Washington Mystics right now. Even Kyla Oldacre is up there with her right now with the Connecticut Sun.

I know some of you Longhorn fans were hoping to see Kyla Oldacre at the Moody Center this weekend. It will still be a good game between the Las Vegas Aces and the Dallas Wings.

The Longhorns announced they have signed forward Jada Bediako this afternoon. She is a junior forward from Marquette and will be a senior next season. She does have quite a resume and will really fit in with the Longhorns next season.

It feels like Vic Schaefer is bringing her in to allow him to redshirt one of the freshman forwards who will be coming into the program next season. That's good for whoever he redshirts, so they can get some practice and be familiar with Schaefer's program after she graduates.

Vic Schaefer has options with new portal addition Jada Bediako

It will give the Longhorns some experience heading into next season when the SEC schedule begins at the beginning of 2027. The Longhorns don't need all the freshmen walking into what is considered the best women's basketball conference and letting that inexperience show.

Texas needs some veteran players in their lineup to help navigate what is expected to be a tough conference schedule next season. Bediako gives the Longhorns a player with playing experience in their lineup.

While she only averaged two points a game last season, Bediako's 6-foot-3 height will help out the Longhorns in the post. Madison Booker needs a lot of the weight lifted off her shoulders since Harmon is no longer with the program.

It has yet to be determined what role Bediako will have next season with the Longhorns; however, I will leave that up to Schaefer. He's taken transfer portal players like Oldacre and has gotten the most out of them. Maybe that's the kind of role she will have with the team next season.

Based on the number of players coming into the program via high school and transfer portal, that could be the final player announcement for the summer. I believe Schaefer has hit the maximum number of players he's allowed on his team.

It will be interesting to see what the lineup will look like next season without Harmon. It's going to be different with a lot of youth on this team. However, I'm excited to see what happens this fall when the Longhorns take the court again.
