The college basketball transfer portal window for basketball just closed on April 22nd. Texas women's basketball has lost a few interior players to the transfer portal this spring.
However, Vic Schaefer was able to add some interior depth during the transfer window. The Longhorns lost a couple more players before the spring window closed. Let's look at who is leaving the women's basketball program.
Before we get to the two players that just entered the portal, we have an update about one who entered earlier this spring. I found out the other day, after being tagged in a tweet by Jim Boyle, that former Center Abbie Boutilier transferred to Eastern Illinois University. I wish her all the best as she looks to get playing time at Eastern Illinois. She moved to a good conference, and I'm sure she will make a difference on the court for the Panthers.

Now, to the two players who just entered the portal at the last minute. The first player to leave the Longhorns program is Senior guard Laila Phelia. Laila was injured most of the season and didn't get much playing time due to needing additional surgery for a detached retina.
With Jordan Lee, Rori Harmon, and Bryanna Preston returning next season, she would be on the outside looking for playing time. I hope a program picks up the veteran guard because she will impact any college team with her experience.
The second player to enter the portal was Junior guard Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda. She stepped up when Aaliyah Moore got injured and earned her spot in the lineup. However, with the recent transfer portal additions, the Longhorns signed, and Moore returning from her injury next season, she will be fighting to get back in the rotation. She will bring so much to her next team wherever she transfers to.
This is something I don't like about the transfer portal. While I understand some players use the transfer portal for good reasons, losing both of these veteran players could end up hurting the Longhorns next season.
Both of them are veterans who could have helped the Longhorns get back to the Final Four and possibly win the National Championship next season. However, I understand they want to have playing time next season and wish both of them the best with their new teams next season.
