Unfortunately for Texas a potential starter along the offensive line in 2026, Nick Brooks, has just announced that he's entering the transfer portal.
This move comes as a surprise to the program as he was most likely set to be in the running to start at one of the vacant offensive guard spots next season alongside incoming transfer Dylan Sikorski. Though the team has been looking to add another interior lineman or two, they didn't see Brooks leaving.

Brooks appeared in multiple games this season for the Longhorns

The 6'7", 340-pound blocker played quite a bit as a true freshman, filling in at offensive guard as a rotational player and even started three games (Oklahoma, Kentucky, Mississippi State) in 2025.
He came to Texas as a 4-star offensive tackle recruit from Grayson HS (Loganville, GA), and he was moved inside due to a lack of talent on the interior. Throughout the spring and summer of 2025, he worked primarily at right tackle, which is where he was probably anticipating to see the most time as a Longhorn.
Though his exact reason for leaving is still unknown, it could simply be that he wanted to play offensive tackle and he knows that he probably wouldn't have been able to in Austin. Sometimes simple things like that are reasons to switch schools and it's totally understandable.
Playing out of position could deter a player from showcasing his full talent, especially when it comes to playing at the next level. No matter the case, we wish Nick all the best as he moves on to a new program for 2026 and beyond.
