It was just officially announced that one of Oklahoma women's basketball's top defenders, SG Zya Vann, is transferring to Texas for the 2026 season.

The 5'9" sophomore from Edmond, OK, played sparingly as a true freshman in 2024/2025, but developed into one of the Sooners' top defenders last season, and averaged double-digit PPG for the first time in her career.

She also averaged a team-high 2.1 steals per game in 2025/2026, and was a constant nuisance along the perimeter for Oklahoma's defense. Her above-average lateral mobility and quickness allows her to bounce around and mirror opposing ball-handlers incredibly well.

Vann is an unbelievably big acquisition for HC Vic Schaefer, as the Longhorns unfortunately lost both Jordan Lee and Aaliyah Crump to the transfer portal this offseason.

Vann hasn't provided the type of offense that Lee and Crump have yet, but as mentioned before, she immediately becomes Texas' best defender, and her passing ability is very impressive as well.

She averaged 10.4 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 2.1 SPG, and 0.6 BPG while shooting 40.5% from the floor and 73.8% from the free-throw line in 2025/2026. It's going to be extremely interesting to see how Coach
Schaefer decides to use her next season alongside Madison Booker and Breya Cunningham.
