Steve Sarksian and Co. just scheduled an official visit with one of, if not their top, 2027 prospects for June 5th. 5-star CB John Meredith III has been on the Longhorns' radar since he was a freshman at North Crowley HS in 2023.
Meredith III has shown glimpses of greatness since the moment that he stepped on the field for the Panthers, and it's gotten to the point to where opposing quarterbacks have simply begun to stop throwing to his side of the field.
He's entering his senior year in 2026 as the No.1-ranked player in the state, and the No.1-ranked cornerback recruit in the 2027 recruiting cycle.

His overall length, processing skills, and athleticism have been on full display in every game he's played, and he's built perfectly for today's game. For example, he has long arms that make his "coverage bubble" incredibly large, which allows him to recover in scenarios that other players wouldn't be able to.
He looks very polished on film in almost every aspect that a college coach looks for as well. He fights well with his hands in press coverage, making it hard for wide receivers to get off the line in a timely fashion. This is actually harder than it looks because it's very easy for defensive backs to draw flags in this area. Despite being long-legged compared to most of the players he faces, he's able to break down and chop his feet when breaking on routes and when mirroring receivers in the quick game.
This is probably his most sought-after ability because typically, bigger cornerbacks don't move as well as he does. A lot of times, longer defensive backs will be pigeon-holed into playing on the boundary to utilize the extra space and sideline to help offset a lack of short-area quickness. The fact that this doesn't apply to the 6'2", 180-pound DB is one of the main reasons why he's the top-ranked cornerback in the 2027 class.
Meredith III undoubtedly has the size, skillset, and brains to see consistent playing time as a true freshman wherever he goes. Let's just hope he decides to stay home and play for Texas' premier football program.
