Tre Johnson shined more brightly than any other Longhorn on the Texas men's basketball roster this season despite being one of the few freshmen to see playing time. Now, the star freshman has received some of the recognition he deserved after his first collegiate season.
Johnson became a leader for the Longhorns throughout the regular season, and Texas will depend on him for whatever the team's postseason will entail.

- Freshman of the Year
- All-SEC Second Team
- SEC All-Freshman Team
Johnson led the Longhorns in scoring through the regular season, with nearly eight more points per game than the No. 2 scorer for the team, Arthur Kaluma.
The freshman started in all 29 games that he played this season and averaged 34.1 minutes per appearance. Johnson earned 20.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.0 steals per game throughout those 29 games.
Throughout the season, Johnson was continuously compared to Longhorn legend Kevin Durant, who left Texas for the NBA after his freshman season, which is what many people expect Johnson to do as well.
While the likelihood of Texas reaching the NCAA Tournament is shrinking by the day, Johnson and the Horns have one last chance to redeem their season when they make an appearance in their first-ever SEC Tournament.
Texas is scheduled to tip off against the Vanderbilt Commodores at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, in the first round of the conference tournament. The Longhorns earned the No. 13 seed in the SEC after finishing the regular season at 17-14 overall and 6-12 versus conference opponents.
