As we near the end of the first week of spring practice, things have already begun to take shape when it comes to Texas' newly revamped offensive line.
Aside from seeing a depth chart being put together on paper, perhaps the most interesting part of watching the offensive line early on is that a true freshman has surprisingly been working with the second team unit this week. Not only that, but he's been performing really well already.
4-star OT recruit John Turntine III has been absolutely killing it since enrolling at Texas in January, and it seems like he's currently the second-team right tackle on the initial chart. It definitely helps that he's up to around 285 pounds right now after getting to Texas at 270-ish pounds. Yes, Andre Cojoe is still out, so Turntine's getting some more work, but it's surprising to see Turntine III working ahead of Jonte Newman. Newman's natural spot is on the right side, but he's working on the left right now.
Brandon Baker has officially moved to right guard and has been working there all week. Laurence Seymore is still committed, but Steve Sarkisian doesn't have an update on his eligibility waiver for 2026 yet. Even if the waiver does get approved, Seymore wouldn't arrive until later in the summer anyway.
Let's take a quick look at the offensive line two-deep throughout the first week of practice:
1st-team | 2nd-team | |
|---|---|---|
LT | Jordan Coleman | Jonte Newman |
LG | Jaydon Chatman | Dylan Sikorski |
C | Connor Robertson | Jackson Christian |
RG | Brandon Baker | Devin Coleman |
RT | Melvin Siani | John Turntine III |
Jordan and Devin Coleman have been very impressive throughout offseason workouts, and it looks like they've officially cracked the two-deep at their respective positions. Jordan is filling in as the starter while Trevor Goosby is rehabbing from his surgery.
Jaydon Chatman has worked at both offensive guard and tackle, but it seems like the staff wants him on the interior now. He has a very good shot to start at left guard if something goes wrong with Laurence Seymore's eligibility status.
Jackson Christian snapped a bit as a true freshman while working at offensive guard, but it looks like he's officially the backup center as of right now, too.
Overall, the initial depth chart looks the way some of us thought it would, except for John Turnine III already working in as a backup. It's great to see that happening already, as he was one of the most athletic and dominant offensive linemen in all of high school football in 2025.
