Vegas oddsmakers don't leave much room for a Texas CFP rankings stunner

It looks like Texas' odds to make the CFP aren't as good as Longhorn Nation would like them to be.

According to Fanduel.com, Texas' odds to make the College Football Playoffs is sitting at +1800. This is much, much lower than what Longhorns' fans would like to see, and what it probably should be.

As mentioned in our last CFP piece, the fact that Texas is so far away from making the playoffs is disgusting. The Longhorns have more top 10 wins than any other team in America right now, and some of the programs that are ranked ahead of them haven't even played as many top 10 teams as Texas in 2025.

Steve Sarkisian has been on a roll lately when it comes to explaining why Texas deserves to be in the playoffs this year over teams who've played "cupcake" schedules and have won 10-11 games:

"You want us not to schedule Ohio State? Because if we're a 10-2 team right now, this isn't a discussion...And this whole idea that hey well you lost to Florida, well the team that played for the national championship last year lost to Northern Illinois at home."

It's 100% true as well, and makes sense regardless of what team you're a fan of. The health of college football revolves around parity and everyone being on a level playing field. You can make that happen in a couple of different ways when it comes to the postseason decision-making process.

1. There can be a rule implemented that limits every school from filling their non-conference schedule with teams like UMass and Middle Tennessee State.

2. You can actually take each team's strength of schedule and quality of wins into consideration when selecting teams for the College Football Playoffs.

"Apparently" option No.2 is how things are currently being done right now, which truly doesn't make sense if Texas' odds are that low to make the playoffs. If No.2 is how it's being done now then the Longhorns would be a top 8-10 team in the updated CFP rankings tonight.

Though the Vegas odds are truly just that, projected odds, and not a real representation of the chance they have, it's still something. Let's just hope that the Selection Committee is actually considering Texas as a more legit contender for the postseason than they're currently being made out to be.
