A handful of teams realistically remain in contention for the two spots in the SEC Championship Game after everyone has played eight games this regular season in the conference.

Mississippi State. . . 15. 530. 1-7 (0-5 SEC). Week 9 Result: 58-25 loss vs. Arkansas. . .

Last week: 14 (-1)

The Arkansas Razorbacks offense had an absolute field day against the Mississippi State Bulldogs defense in Starkville last weekend, allowing over 350 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Mississippi State's offense held its own against Arkansas' defense in a way in terms of total yardage. What ultimately doomed Mississippi State to this blowout 58-25 loss at home was turning the ball over five times and giving up over 650 total yards of offense to the Hogs.

. . Week 9 Result: 24-10 loss vs. Auburn. . . Kentucky. 3-5 (1-5 SEC). 14. . 528

Last week: 13 (-1)

Head coach Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats have been falling apart lately. Kentucky has a three-game losing streak, including two contests against unranked foes at home in Lexington to the Florida Gators and Vanderbilt.

The biggest problem for the Wildcats is big lack of offensive production and scoring. Kentucky hasn't scored over 20 points against a P4 foe this season. It's hard to see things improving for Kentucky's offense this weekend on a road trip to Knoxville to face a good Tennnessee Volunteers defense in Week 10.

. 13. . . . . Auburn. Week 9 Result: 24-10 win @ Kentucky. 3-5 (1-4 SEC). 525

Last week: 15 (+2)

Head coach Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers reeled in their first SEC win last weekend in a double-digit triumph over Kentucky on the road. Auburn's defense looked solid, and the offense didn't repeatedly shoot itself in the foot with untimely penalties and bad turnovers.

Running back Jarquez Hunter stole the show in the win over Kentucky last weekend, rushing for over 275 yards and two rushing scores. Hunter and the Tigers have a big test to see if they can continue to build momentum late in the season in SEC play this week against Vanderbilt at home.

526. 12. . Florida. Week 9 Result: BYE. 4-3 (2-2 SEC). . . .

Last week: 12 (--)

I think Florida is in a much better spot than many SEC fans felt they would be entering the month of November. The Gators had the bye week to prepare for a tough upcoming stretch of games in early-to-mid November in the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party against the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and then on the road against No. 6 Texas.
