The Tennessee Volunteers overwhelmed the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a double-digit loss for first-year head coach Jeff Lebby's squad in Knoxville over the weekend. Mississippi State has shown signs of life, especially on the offensive side of the ball, at times this season.
It could be considered somewhat encouraging that Mississippi State was able to run for nearly 200 yards against a solid Tennessee defensive front, largely thanks to 125 yards on the ground from running back Davon Booth and one rushing score.

It looks like the four-game losing skid will finally end for head coach Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats this upcoming weekend at home against FCS Murray State. But it does seem that bowl eligibility is mostly out of reach for the Wildcats, which would need to defeat No. 3 Texas football and the No. 22 Louisville Cardinals on the road in the regular season's final two weeks.

After the bye week, the Auburn Tigers and head coach Hugh Freeze get a tune-up game against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at home at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn needs a confidence-building win for the final stretch run of the regular season.

A banged up Florida Gators squad was unable to hang with Texas in a 32-point beatdown in Austin last weekend. Florida clearly has talent on each side of the ball, and is playing hard for head coach Billy Napier.
But quarterback injuries that have taken out freshman DJ Lagway (maybe he comes back this week against LSU?) and senior Graham Mertz will make it difficult for the Gators to find much more success in the win column this fall.
