Week 12 SEC conference power rankings

No. 3 Texas returns to the top of the SEC power rankings for the first time in a few weeks.

Ole Miss and head coach Lane Kiffin have finally started to see the pieces click more on each side of the ball in SEC play over the past three weeks. The Rebels handily defeated Ole Miss on both sides of the line of scrimmage, winning the yardage battle by over 150 yards and the turnover battle with a margin of +2.

The Rebels have a bye week this week before facing a stretch run where it could make a final push into the Playoffs and potentially a spot in the SEC Championship Game.

Tennessee continues to win games with an impressive ground game and consistent defensive success. Stud running back Dylan Sampson rushed for nearly 150 yards and one score in a convincing 33-14 defeat of Mississippi State at Neyland Stadium this past Saturday.

Head coach Josh Heupel and the Vols can simultaneously improve their SEC and Playoff resume and hopes while ending Georgia's this weekend in Athens. According to the Allstate playoff predictor, Tennessee has the third-best odds of any SEC team to make the Playoff this postseason.

Last week: 2 (+1)

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns took care of business in convincing fashion in Week 11, with a dominant 49-17 win over the Gators at home. Texas had a whopping 35-0 shutout lead by halftime against a battered and bruised Florida squad.

Texas closes out the regular season with two games it should be favored in, against Kentucky at home and Arkansas on the road this weekend. Then, the biggest matchup remaining lies ahead in a few weeks on the road against in-state rival Texas A&M.
