Ewers is "healthy" entering the stretch run of the 2024 season and postseason
In a non-conference game against UTSA, Ewers suffered an oblique injury in Week 3 that caused him to miss a handful of games in late September. He returned from the oblique strain injury on Oct. 12 against the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game.
Since returning from the oblique injury, Ewers has been up and down as he gets settled back into the offense for Sarkisian. Ewers looked uncomfortable throwing in the pocket in his first two games back from the oblique strain injury at QB, against Oklahoma and Georgia in mid-October.
In the past three games, Ewers has played better more consistently when it mattered against SEC competition in wins over the Vanderbilt Commodores, Florida Gators, and Arkansas Razorbacks. He was 20-of-32 passing for 176 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and no interceptions in a 20-10 rivalry game road victory over the Hogs last weekend.
Sarkisian said in his Thursday press conference on Nov. 21 that Ewers is "as healthy now as he was earlier this season". Ewers has battled his way through injuries and tough situations in road games in SEC play to lead the Longhorns to a No. 3 slot in the College Football Playoff record, along with being one win away from reaching double-digit victories this regular season.
With Ewers healthy for the stretch run this season, the Texas offense is in a great position to win games over Kentucky and Texas A&M and enter the postseason with momentum on their side.
Injuries have been a huge question mark for Ewers throughout his career at Texas for the past three seasons. He's missed at least one start for the Longhorns in every year he's been a starting quarterback at Texas since 2022.
Ewers ended last season with a record-breaking performance in a dominant win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 Championship Game win in DFW. Texas was one game away from reaching the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, after falling short in a one possession loss to Washington in the semis at the Sugar Bowl.
