Marvin Jones Jr., EDGE (Florida State)
On Friday (Jan. 3), it was reported that former Florida State Seminoles junior edge rusher transfer Marvin Jones Jr. visited Texas. While the Longhorns haven't been targeting help at the EDGE position very much in the transfer portal for the upcoming offseason, Jones is the type of talented player who can help along the defensive front seven with a proven and talented player from a big-time program at Florida State.
Jones also visited the Oklahoma Sooners up in Norman roughly 24 hours before making the trip to Texas on Friday.
The 6-foot-5 and 255-pound EDGE from American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL, played nearly 400 defensive snaps over 11 games for the Seminoles this season. He registered 25 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks, 16 QB pressures, 2 QB hits, 17 defensive stops, and one forced fumble.
Before transferring to Florida State last offseason, Jones played the first two seasons of his collegiate career under head coach Kirby Smart with the Georgia Bulldogs. Jones was a rotational outside backer/EDGE player for the Dawgs in his first two seasons in college, including playing over a dozen games for the 2022 national championship Georgia team in his freshman campaign.
Despite there not being an outsized need to add help and top-end depth to the EDGE position ahead of the 2025 season for the Longhorns, Jones still makes sense to take if he can really help the depth and talent up front for the next campaign for Texas's defense.
