But Jones fits the description of one of the best players available in the winter portal for the upcoming offseason for the Longhorns' defensive front.
Jones' visit to Texas on Friday comes on the heels of a trip he took to Norman to see the Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Brent Venables on Thursday (Jan. 2).
In 2024, Jones registered 25 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks, 16 quarterback pressures, two QB hits, 17 defensive stops, and one forced fumble. The 6-foot-5 and 255-pound EDGE Jones started 11 of the 13 games he played for the Seminoles this fall.
Jones started out his collegiate career with the Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart, signing to play in Athens as a five-star recruit from Fort Lauderdale (FL) American Heritage High School in the 2022 class.
He played rotational snaps for the Georgia defensive front that won the National Championship in 2022. Jones had 16 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 25 games played for the Georgia defensive front in the 2022 and 2023 seasons in the SEC.
Jones has one year of eligibility remaining.
Texas has signed three players from the winter portal window so far for the upcoming offseason in 2025, including former Purdue defensive tackle Cole Brevard, Utah punter Jack Bouwmeester, and Arkansas linebacker Brad Spence.
