This has been a wild recruiting cycle for the 2025 class as we approach signing day on Dec. 4, which has impacted Texas football on the trail in the past few weeks. While Texas has benefitted from some commitment flips in the 2025 recruiting class this fall, it's also lost some key pieces for this cycle.

Late-cycle movement and flips impacting Texas football in both directions before signing day for the 2025 class

Texas entered last weekend with 24 commitments in the 2025 recruiting class. But that number waned a bit between Sunday (Dec. 1) and Monday (Dec. 2). Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns lost a couple of commitments in the 2025 class in the span of a little over 24 hours, including one blue-chip pledge in the trenches on the defensive side of the ball.

That said, the Longhorns have also added to its 2025 class this week with one key commitment flip in the defensive backfield. On the morning of Dec. 3, Texas flipped the elite five-star Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Hightower cornerback Kade Phillips from the LSU Tigers.

Phillips was originally committed to the Longhorns from early July until mid-to-late August this past summer in the 2025 class. He was committed to LSU from late August until he recommitted to the Longhorns on Tuesday morning.

Texas is sitting at 23 commitments in the 2025 class under 24 hours from the start of the Early Signing Period on Dec. 4 at 7 a.m. CT. More additions are expected for the Longhorns in the 2025 class from high school recruiting through signing day later this week. To make up for some of the lost commitments in the 2025 class, I could still see the Longhorns adding another two or three pledges until the end of the Early Signing Period on Dec. 6.

Here's a look at the two recent decommitments from the Longhorns in the 2025 class in the past couple of days.
