2 studs, 1 dud from Texas's road win vs. NC State

Texas got a big Quad 1/2 win on the road tonight in the SEC/ACC Challenge by a couple of possessions over NC State in Raleigh.

Dud: Julian Larry, G

In the past two games where the Longhorns won games against St. Joseph's and Delaware State, senior guard Julian Larry provided Texas valuable two-way production and backcourt depth off the bench. Larry averaged scoring in the double figures, three assists, and three rebounds coming off the bench in Texas's past two games before the SEC/ACC Challenge tonight against NC State.

Larry's minutes were more limited against NC State compared to the past few games. He didn't make much of an impact on the game out of the gates in the first half. For the first time in three weeks, Larry didn't have any first-half points against NC State for the Longhorns.

In nine minutes off the bench in the first half, Larry did register three assists, one rebound, and one turnover. But he wasn't asked to do much shooting the basketball for Texas's backcourt.

Since this was such a low scoring game between Texas and NC State tonight, the Longhorns could've used more of an offensive spark off the bench from Larry. Texas didn't score over 35 points in either half against a stout NC State defense that ranks in the top half of the ACC.

I would've liked to see Larry, a 50 percent shooter from beyond the arc this season (coming into the matchup against NC State), taking more shots from downtown tonight. Despite shooting an efficient 47 percent from three-point range, Texas only took 17 attempts from deep as a team, the fewest since the Legends Classic opener on Nov. 21 against Syracuse.

This wasn't really a bad game from Larry. I just think he could've made impacts on the offensive end more pronounced than he did in under 20 minutes off the bench against a quality opponent on the road. His experience could've helped the Longhorns get more momentum on the offensive end of the floor.
