2 Texas LBs who entered the transfer portal on Monday
With the winter NCAA Transfer Portal window opening on Dec. 9, we've already seen a handful of Texas football players announce intentions to transfer this upcoming offseason.
Transfer portal movement impact Texas football's roster on the first day of the winter window
Before the transfer portal window opened on Monday morning (Dec. 9), the Longhorns already had two players announce their intentions to depart the program via the transfer market. The first Longhorns player who announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal this fall was sophomore wide receiver Johntay Cook II.
After spending a couple of years with the Longhorns program, Cook decided to test the waters in the portal.
The next Texas player who announced their intentions to enter the portal before the transfer window opened up this week was redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Jaray Bledsoe. Late last week, Bledsoe announced his intentions to enter the portal for the winter transfer window.
As is usually the case in the modern day and age of college football with NIL and the portal, the transfer market will be a two-way street for Texas. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff are expected to be pretty aggressive with who they target and pursue in the portal at key positions of need on each side of the ball in the winter transfer window.
Texas's portal needs will continue to be evaluated on the roster as more Longhorns' players are expected to announce their intentions to transfer in the coming days and weeks. Two Texas players already announced they're planning to enter the portal on the morning of Dec. 9 alone.
