2 ways Steve Sarkisian can attack Georgia's defense

Texas is looking to win potentially its biggest game of the regular season under head coach Steve Sarkisian at home this weekend against No. 5 Georgia.

One-on-one intermediate and deep passes on the outside

The one place where Georgia's defense has been pretty consistently beaten in SEC play this season is on the outside. Georgia's two starting corners, junior Daylen Everette and redshirt sophomore Julian Humphrey, both grade out among the bottom half of starting SEC corners in coverage this season (per PFF).

Last weekend, the Mississippi State Bulldogs found consistent success attacking the Georgia corners one-on-one on the boundary and over the top with the deep ball. A true freshman starting quarterback, Michael Van Buren, threw for a season-high 173 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and one interception on deep pass attempts against Georgia in Week 7.

All told, over 225 of Mississippi State's 306 passing yards last weekend against Georgia's defense were on intermediate and deep passes.

Alabama and standout quarterback Jalen Milroe also found success against Georgia's DBs in one-on-one coverage in the intermediate and deep passing game a few weeks ago in their win over the Dawgs, 41-34.

If Texas gets speedy junior wide receiver Isaiah Bond back from the ankle injury he suffered in the Red River Rivalry game win on Oct. 12 over the Oklahoma Sooners for the Georgia game this weekend, the Longhorns' passing game could be in good shape to hit the Dawgs' secondary on intermediate and deep balls in one-on-one coverage.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has a multitude of weapons he can look to in the passing game to try and exploit the Georgia secondary in one-on-one matchups, including the aforementioned Bond, freshman Ryan Wingo, senior tight end Gunnar Helm, etc.

Bond made a big impact on Alabama's pass-game productivity in their SEC Championship Game win last season over Georgia, with five catches for 79 yards (15.8 yards per catch). If he's anything close to healthy and up to speed for this game, he will be a dangerous weapon for Georgia's corners to deal with against the high-octane Texas passing attack this upcoming weekend in Austin.
