Tight Ends – Cade Brewer and Reese Leitao

TE might be the strength of Texas’ recruiting class. Coach Herman raved about Cade Brewer and Reese Leitao in his National Signing Day press conference – and for good reason.

Neither one ranked in the ESPN 300, but both should be big-time factors in Texas’ offense.

Cade Brewer will be valuable because he can line up in multiple positions. Coach Herman said they need a versatile TE, like what Herman had at Houston in Tyler McCloskey. He said the offense will be complex running a pro-style spread offense with NFL concepts mixed with college-style groupings.

Brewer will fit in nicely, while Reese Leitao should also fit the mold of a versatile TE who run block, pass block, split out wide, and catch the ball anywhere on the field.

Texas rarely used the TE in recent years under both Mack Brown and Charlie Strong. However, this should give QB Shane Buechele (or Sam Ehlinger) some additional weapons to spread out defenses, make the WRs better, and open up the running game.
