Joyner Holmes won Big 12 Freshman of the Year this season. Next year, she needs to join Brooke McCarty in the National Player of the Year discussion.

Holmes models her game after LeBron James – she can shoot, score, rebound, assist, take the ball coast to coast, and play all five positions on the court.

Now, she needs to be feared by opponents as the type of player who can take over a game and impose her will whenever she wants to.

Holmes will also make her teammates better when she starts drawing attention from defenders. She can set up open looks on the perimeter, dump the ball down low for easy buckets, and spread out defenses to create for other players.

What Holmes will be capable of as a sophomore is beyond comprehension because she is already very good. And, her freshman performance was without the benefit of summer workouts because she was injured.

In order to get to the Final Four, Joyner Holmes needs to play like she is the most dominant player on the court. That means willing her team to victory, like she did in the last two plays of Texas’ second round NCAA Tournament win over North Carolina State.
