This would be horrible for LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron to lose out on the services of the top cornerback in the nation in five-star Baton Rouge, LA, native Derek Stingley. LSU does seem like the likely destination for Stingley, but Texas probably has the second best chance to get him.

On the recruiting trail for the 2018 class, the highlight of the 27 signees was at safety. For the 2019 recruiting class, the focus could fall to the cornerbacks, if Stingley commits to pair with Watson II. Stingley is the No. 1 rated corner in the nation and the No. 17 overall prospect.

The Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Arizona State Sun Devils also have a slight chance to nab Stingley. He holds 32 offers altogether and his most recent recruiting visit was to the Forty Acres in Austin. The University of Texas is still a local tie for Stingley, as it’s not too far from Baton Rouge.

Texas also holds an intriguing non-conference matchup coming up within the next five years with LSU. However, landing Stingley fills a future need for the Horns, and sets up the defensive backfield for a very bright future. Imagine the type of secondary Texas would have with Sterns, Foster, Watson II, and Stingley all present.
