It goes without saying that all the games on this list came from victories for Texas. One of the earliest games of the 21th century for the Horns came with a 47-43 win over a big time program in the Washington Huskies, in the 2001 Holiday Bowl.

The Texas quarterback back in 2001, Major Applewhite, had himself a massive game with more than 450 passing yards and four touchdowns. Applewhite led a huge comeback for Texas in the fourth quarter of this matchup, outscoring the Huskies 27-7 after the Horns had been down on the scoreboard since the second quarter.

UW running back Willie Hurts carried the load for the Huskies with more than 130 rushing yards and two touchdowns. This was a back and forth between the Texas defense and UW offense in the first half, and the opposite way in the fourth quarter. UW had a few big plays from the defensive side of the ball here, including a 38 yard interception returned for a touchdown by Tank Johnson.

This game would spark a huge run for Texas all the way through the 2000’s until the 2009 campaign for the Horns. UW had a solid team in the early 2000’s but fought its way through mediocrity until current head football coach Chris Petersen took over from the Boise State Broncos recently.
