McCoy exploded onto the scene early in his freshman campaign, by helping Texas take down the North Texas Mean Green in the 2006 season opener. In that victory over North Texas, McCoy totaled more than 200 yards and four touchdowns. He didn’t have a single interception tossed in that game either.

Later in the 2006 regular season, McCoy had his first big showing against Big 12 competition. He helped knock off a sub par Baylor Bears squad. Even though Baylor was one of the worst teams in the Big 12 that season, McCoy put up a massive stat line that’s considered impressive against really any competition.

Most of the completions that McCoy managed resulting in a big play for the Horns. Although McCoy completed just 21 passes at home in this victory over Baylor, six of those went for touchdowns. Only one of his passing attempts went for an interception.

The momentum that McCoy picked up through the beginning of the Big 12 slate in 2006 kept rolling through some very tough competition in the middle of the year. Baylor was the easiest opponent that the Horns faced in that stretch. It was one of two career six passing touchdown games for McCoy. He went on to also defeat the Oklahoma Sooners, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Oklahoma State Cowboys, as part of an eight game winning streak.
