Texas Football: 5 best games ever for Colt McCoy with the Longhorns
Texas-Texas Tech gave college football fans some truly entertaining matchups during the McCoy era in Austin. However, the 2007 meeting between the Horns and Red Raiders delivered a nice result for the fans wearing orange. Similar to the 2006 win over Baylor, McCoy was a huge reason why Texas was able to keep control of this game the entire way and keep any idea of an upset the opposition had away.
McCoy posted a season-high six total touchdowns in this 16-point victory over Texas Tech. He was able to outdo the Texas Tech dynamic duo of quarterback Graham Harrell and superstar wide receiver Michael Crabtree (who would become a first round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft soon after).
Harrell and Crabtree kept things close early, but the Horns snagged control and momentum in the second half. McCoy’s legs actually helped Texas along through the entire game, with two rushing touchdowns here. A high-scoring fourth quarter between the Horns and Red Raiders had McCoy notch the game-winning touchdown with a 22-yard rushing score.
McCoy and the Horns never looked back by running away on the scoreboard throughout the entire fourth quarter. Texas wide receiver Quan Cosby had himself a big game with nearly 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns. This was also a great example of McCoy’s presence helping the Horns put away opponents before things got too scary at home.
