H-Wide Receiver

1. Jerrod Heard

Of all the roles in the Texas receiving corps for this fall, it should be more solidified for rising senior Jerrod Heard than anyone else outside of Johnson at the X. Heard was once the apparent starting quarterback of the future, with a great early performance against Cal back in 2015.

It’s been a long time since Heard was lining up under center for the Horns. Now, he’s one of the more athletic wide receivers in open space. And, some NFL team could use him for that at the next level following this season.

Heard is a fantastic option for Texas to find in some screen plays and on intermediate routes. He’s an underrated route runner and can burn opposing defensive backs when given some room. This is a player that every defensive coordinator needs to remember when planning to face the Texas offense.

2. Jordan Pouncey/Lil’Jordan Humphrey

Once again, it’s difficult to find the placing for Humphrey here. One player that will compete for some serious time in the Texas receiving corps is young former three-star underrated wide receiver in Jordan Pouncey. With a big show out in spring camp, Pouncey is primed to make his name known in 2018.

This is one of the more shallow receiver positions in a very deep receiving corps overall for Texas. Look past Pouncey and we’ll get to a few freshmen between a pair of four star prospects in Al’vonte Woodard and Joshua Moore. Pouncey and Heard are both going to get some targets at this spot, but Humphrey could work in some routes here too.
