1. Contention for Big 12 Championship Game

A double-digit win season for the Horns would also mean a likely appearance in the 2018 Big 12 Championship Game. The 2017 edition of this contest was decided between the Sooners and Horned Frogs. Both OU and TCU do have the talent necessary to make that return to the Big 12 Championship Game this year.

However, if the Horns have anything to say about it, there should be a serious run coming from this team up the Big 12 standings. The excuses are starting to run thin with middling out in the conference. Now, Texas finally has the pieces on both sides of the ball to start climbing the ladder back to Big 12 contention.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that the Horns have to play in the game that decides the conference title this year, but some progress has to be made in that pursuit. Texas is too good and talented all over the place not to compete at this level sometime soon.

The amount of excitement that would be coming out of Austin for a Big 12 Championship Game run for Texas is almost unimaginable. Texas is a very marketable program that would help generate some College Football Playoff hype for even the other teams in the conference with a run to the Big 12 Championship Game in 2018.
