Texas Basketball: 5 best former Longhorns in the NBA
The Indiana Pacers did very well by selecting Myles Turner in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft. Since then, Turner has turned into one of the most versatile big men in the Eastern Conference. He’s also the clear second best player on a Pacers team that looks to be in a solid situation heading into the future.
Turner might play second fiddle to an emerging superstar at guard in Victor Oladipo now, but that role is a good spot for him. Before then, Turner was in a secondary scoring role too with current free agent forward Paul George at the helm in Indiana. Both George and Oladipo command the ball for most of the game when the Pacers are on offense.
The numbers for Turner saw a slight dip last season, but he scored right at his career average of 12.7 points per game. His rebounding numbers went down slightly too, sitting at less than 6.5 per game in 2017-18. Yet, it does seem like Turner is really starting to find his groove as a stretch forward that can shoot from any range inside the three point line.
Once Turner can truly get accustomed to Oladipo in the mix for the Pacers, his numbers could eclipse what he did during his sophomore campaign in 2016-17. We should also expect Turner to see a rise in his player efficiency rating next season, since it dropped around two points from 2016-17 to 2017-18.
