Texas Basketball Recruiting: Ranking the past five classes for the Longhorns
3. 2018
The 2018 recruiting class defaults to this spot on the list for obvious reasons. While there is a ton of raw talent coming from four different four-star prospects that signed for this cycle, none of them have actually suited up for the Horns yet. It also continues the trend of top 10 ranked classes for the Horns’ basketball program.
Furthermore, it’s difficult to place the 2018 class ahead of the 2015 class. But, we expect the five talented incoming freshmen of this group of signees to have a longer and more positive impact than that of Mack, Davis, and Roach Jr. Shaka Smart looked to have potentially signed some program changing players in this top 10 class in the nation.
Courtney Ramey, Gerald Liddell, and Kamaka Hepa highlight a class that should feature quite a few instant impact freshmen. With rising sophomore point guard Matt Coleman likely taking the starting role at his position, Ramey will have some competition on his hands. But, players like Liddell, Hepa, and Jaxson Hayes have a direct path to a starting gig in the Texas rotation.
We’ll have to see this group of freshmen in action to make an official determination of the placing on the list. Judging by the ranking of the 2018 recruiting class at this moment, it’s too good to let it slip past the 2014 and 2015 classes. The Kansas Jayhawks, a true blue blood basketball program, was the only Big 12 school to finish ranked ahead of the Horns in the conference rankings.
